Bigert & Bergström - Tipping Point
2 June 2022 - 19 June 2022
During June, the acclaimed multi-art work Tipping Point by the artist duo Bigert & Bergström will be shown in Galärparken (at Junibacken).
Tipping Point is a multi-art work in which the audience encounters a large moving sculpture consisting of rotating pendulums on which platforms and counterweights are suspended. On these, scenes representing different geographical locations, culture, research and visions of the future unfold. The platforms are manned by actors of varying ages and origins who balance and interact with each other. Will it collapse or will equilibrium and stability be achieved?
With the sculpture, Bigert & Bergström visualize the complex interactions between our decisions today on the one hand, and living conditions and climate change in the future on the other.
Bigert & Bergström (Mats Bigert and Lars Bergström) is an artist duo based in Stockholm whose collaboration began in 1986. Their large-scale installations, public works, sculptures and films often address issues related to man's relationship with climate, nature and technology.
Tipping Point is shown in the Galärparken (at Junibacken) and runs in a loop that starts every hour. From 11 am to 3 pm each day, visitors can experience the artwork. No pre-registration or ticket is required, but there is a queue on site.
The work will also be accompanied by the tipping points seminar series, featuring international experts, climate scientists and artists. Read more here.
The exhibition is a collaboration between the Institute for Futures Studies, Rikstolvan and Liljevalch's art gallery. The exhibition and seminars are organised by the research council Formas, the Global Challenges Foundation, the Institute for Futures Studies and the City of Stockholm's Traffic and Events Department.
