Ingela Johansson, Searching for the Spiral

This summer, Liljevalchs is showing the newly produced video Searching for the Spiral by Stockholm-based artist Ingela Johansson. 

In the film Searching for the Spiral, the artist's alter-ego The Artist Mother searches for spiritual meaning and community in a time of social and political crisis. Throughout the film, the camera is an extension of the artist's eye and hand. We encounter fossils, rock formations and landscapes as if they have been brushed with impatient curiosity, while at other times it is almost as if the moving images have been constructed with a slow and careful hand.

The film has a more intuitive approach than the artist's previous video works. Places are connected and flow together, Glastonbury follows Småland, the children are present around the artist's mother during research and filming. What remains is a longing to go out into nature and listen to the stories of the surrounding landscape.

The movie is about 24 minutes long.
