Karin Wikström

Karin Wikström is a fabulous painter with an instinctive sense of colour and form. This autumn her work is on display in the Upper and Lower Galleries of Liljevalchs+.

Brush and paint have a wild temperament, but in the midst of the attack there is always the ability to freeze an eye or a gesture. The pictorial world opens up, time stands still, and what we see as viewers is a magical nature, filled with beings, with animals that speak directly to the heart and brain.

Wikström's painting is idiosyncratic and single-minded, yet anchored in an expressive, narrative Swedish painting tradition. Why not talk about a contemporary Swedish counterpart to Åke Göransson and Inge Schiöler, shown in parallel in Sal Syd and Sal Nord.

Karin Wikström was born in Östersund in 1959 and studied at KV Art School 1987-1988, Hovedskou Painting School 1988-1990, and Valand Art Academy 1990-1995. She lives and works in Gothenburg.
