SUMMARY:Talk: Michael Rosen on Dignity
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening with a talk by the philosopher and Harvard professor Michael Rosen centered on the concept of dignity\, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition When We See Us by Director of Liljevalchs\, Joanna Sandell Wright.  \n\n\n\nDignity runs through modern life\, from the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations to the ways that we look at one another when we meet. Yet it is puzzling too. Dignity has meant very different things to different people at different times and places. The philosopher\, Michael Rosen\, will bring out some of those ideas and ask what they tell us about ourselves. \n\n\n\nMichael Rosen is the Senator Joseph S. Clark Professor of Ethics in Politics and Government at Harvard University. Among his books are Dignity: its History and Meaning (2012) and The Shadow of God: Kant\, Hegel and the Passage from Heaven to History (2022). \n\n\n\nAfter the talk\, Joanna Sandell Wright\, Director of Liljevalchs\, will give a guided tour of the exhibition When We See Us\, with a focus on the concept of dignity.Limited number of seats. Prepurchase your ticket to ensure your spot. The ticket is also valid as admission to the exhibition. \n\n\n\nThe talk is held in English. \n\n\n\nImage: Michael Rosen. \n\n\n\n\n\n Tuesday June 9th at 5PM \n\n\n\n Liljevalchs+ \n\n\n\n Prepurchase your ticket

SUMMARY:Visita comentada en español: When We See Us
DESCRIPTION:When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in PaintingCuando Nos Vemos: Un siglo de Pintura y Figurativismo Negro \n\n\n\nTe invitamos a una visita comentada en español por la exposición When We See Us en Liljevalchs\, desde una perspectiva decolonial y afro centrada. \n\n\n\n\n\n Saturday June 27th\, 2 PM \n\n\n\n Liljevalchs+ \n\n\n\n Get ticket

SUMMARY:September Sessions x Liljevalchs: Choose the way ritual
DESCRIPTION:As part of the September Sessions art festival\, Liljevalchs presents a participatory performance in Ylva Snöfrid’s exhibition The House of the Muses. \n\n\n\nDuring this immersive performance inside Ylva Snöfrid’s exhibition The House of the Muses\, the Choose the way ritual is activated. The visitors are invited to enter and go through the artist’s paintings\, where a choice between two possible paths is to be made: the pink which leads to The Dream Rite\, or the grey\, leading to Dystopia. It all begs the question: What kind of world do we want to see?The artist will be on site and lead the performance.Free admission between 1 and 3 pm. No pre-booking required. \n\n\n\nYlva Snöfrid is known for her performative works\, pushing the boundaries of painting; within Snöfrid’s ritualized world\, everything revolves around painting that moves between figuration and matter. Her artistic process often takes place in communal rooms and in collective rituals\, where she takes on the role as a mediator between work and reality. In 2017\, she performed a “transmutation ritual” in which she became one with her twin soul Snöfrid. \n\n\n\nYlva Snöfrid has been based in New York\, Berlin\, Athens and Stockholm. She has exhibited extensively around the world in numerous large exhibitions and site-specific works\, including Istanbul Biennal\, Performa in New York\, Palais de Tokyo\, Swiss Institute in New York\, Institut Suédois in Paris\, Bonniers konsthall and Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen. \n\n\n\nSeptember Sessions is a four-day art festival in Stockholm\, initiated in 2023 by Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation and Mint. SUMMARY:Ylva Snöfrid x The Royal Dramatic Theater
DESCRIPTION:As part of Ylva Snöfrid’s exhibition and Gesamtkunstwerk The House of the Muses\, a major collaboration with director and actor Rebecka Hemse and The Royal Dramatic Theatre is presented\, in which actors from the ensemble of The Royal Dramatic Theatre enter the work and enact scenes. \n\n\n\nThe House of the Muses is based on a manuscript written by Ylva Snöfrid. On a number of occasions throughout the autumn\, actors from the ensemble of The Royal Dramatic Theatre will become part of the Gesamtkunstwerk. In collaboration with The Royal Dramatic Theatre\, fragments from the world drama repertoire are woven into Snöfrid’s manuscript and into the rituals in the exhibition\, creating intimate encounters between spectator\, art and drama. In these experimental situations\, something third emerges: a hybrid between art and theatre. \n\n\n\nThe scenes enacted become elements of the work and new works within the work simultaneously – a dialogue between artist and play\, between art and drama\, and between art institution and theatre. Different combinations of actors take part each time\, and different scenes are performed\, making each occasion unique. \n\n\n\nFeaturing members of the ensemble of The Royal Dramatic Theatre: Danilo Bejarano\, Nikola Borggård Gavanozov\, Thomas Hanzon\, Rebecka Hemse\, Hamadi Khemiri\, Melinda Kinnaman\, Nikola Borggård GavanozovRazmus Nyström\, Ingela Olsson\, Lotta Tejle\, Kristina Törnqvist and Alexander de Sousa\, among others.Other actors: Noemia Nascimento Bejarano\, Wasim Harwill\, Harriet Amrén Hemse\, Cora Hallberg Sandell\, Alma Carrigan Sandin\, Hedvig Carrigan Sandin\, Sibylla Mallea Lira Young\, and Xenia Mallea Lira Young. \n\n\n\nNo advance booking required.
\n\n\n\nFeaturing members of the ensemble of The Royal Dramatic Theatre: Danilo Bejarano\, Anna Björk\, Thérèse Brunnander\, Erik Ehn\, Nikola Borggård Gavanozov\, Thomas Hanzon\, Rebecka Hemse\, Hamadi Khemiri\, Melinda Kinnaman\, Hulda Lind Jóhannsdóttir\, Razmus Nyström\, Ingela Olsson\, Lotta Tejle\, Kristina Törnqvist\, Alexander de Sousa\, Nina Zanjani\, among others.Other actors: Noemia Nascimento Bejarano\, Wasim Harwill\, Harriet Amrén Hemse\, Cora Hallberg Sandell\, Alma Carrigan Sandin\, Hedvig Carrigan Sandin\, Sibylla Mallea Lira Young\, and Xenia Mallea Lira Young. \n\n\n\nNo advance booking required. SUMMARY:Liljevalchs 110 years: The social museum and the organization of art

To mark Liljevalchs 110th anniversary\, the artist Ingela Johansson has been invited to curate a program in two parts\, in which she examines the history of the art institution. \n\n\n\nIn Ingela Johansson’s artistic practice\, she explores Sweden’s connection to the wider world\, and is well known for her expert archival work. Here\, she deep dives into the ways Liljevalchs has shaped conceptions of art\, which artistic expressions have been granted space and the impacts different periods of time have had on the institution. The archive becomes a material through which Johansson analyses the changes\, disparities and blind spots of the institution. \n\n\n\nLiljevalchs is a “home for artists” that grew out of a vision about strengthening the art life at a time when public spaces for art were rare. What was considered urgent within the Western contemporary art at the time was given a central location in an esteemed architectural building. Simultaneously\, an exhibition space for traditional practices such as arts and crafts and design was enabled: the popular associations and civic organisations got the opportunity to represent their members and art was educational. \n\n\n\nFor more than a century\, the programme of Liljevalchs has oscillated between the local\, the everyday and international art scenes. The art institution has mirrored both social phenomena and commercial aspects of art and political structures. In particular\, this was the focal point during the women’s rights movement with renowned women’s historical exhibitions. In her extensive archival research\, Ingela Johansson has scrutinized the history of Liljevalchs and asked herself what the wide range of art showcased at the institution has meant. \n\n\n\nOver two public talks with invited guests\, Johansson presents parts of her inquiry. This is the first iteration of this series\, subtitled A room of one’s own for Art. \n\n\n\nPart I: A room of one’s own for Art\n\n\n\nParticipants: Ingela Johansson\, artist and curator for the program\, Joanna Zawieja\, architect and curator\, Pella Myrstener\, PhD in Art History. Corina Oprea\, curator and Head of Public Engagement of Liljevalchs\, will moderate the panel discussion. \n\n\n\n6.00 pm Introduction by Corina Oprea\, followed by a speculative lecture by Ingela Johansson\, ranging from the institutions time of establishment\, through World War II and into the 1950’s developing ideas about the modern museum. \n\n\n\n6.30 pm With the history of Liljevalchs as a point of departure\, Joanna Zawieja looks forward and asks herself what we really are building when we are building a room for art. Apart from the art itself\, what takes place there? And what role can the art institution hold as a communal room and social infrastructure in the city? \n\n\n\n6.40 pm Panel discussion with Ingela Johansson\, Joanna Zawieja and Pella Myrstener. The discussion is moderated by Corina Oprea. \n\n\n\nThe programme is held in Swedish. Limited capacity. Admission to Liljevalchs is included in the ticket. \n\n\n\nPart 2: Liljevalchs\, the women’s struggle and the social room is held 3 December at 6 pm. Invited guests are Malin Arnell\, Gittan Jönsson and Gunilla Lundahl. \n\n\n\n\n\n 15 October\, 6–7.30 pm \n\n\n\n Liljevalchs+ \n\n\n\n Get tickets \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Ingela Johansson\, curator \n Ingela Johansson often explores themes such as social history and collective experiences of historiography through activating archives.
