Lars Lerin

May 18, 2018 September 9, 2018

Welcome to Lars Lerin's imagery, a world created from water and pigment. The exhibition is coming to an end – on Friday we will therefore be open from 11.00 to 23.00.

Lars Lerin has in recent years consolidated his position as one of Sweden's most beloved artists. There will be hour-long queues for his exhibitions and his participation in various television shows has gained millions of viewers. In 2016, he received the Kristallen Award as television personality of the year.

He is considered the nordic region's foremost watercolourist but also works in other techniques. In addition to exhibitions at galleries and museums in Sweden, the Nordic countries, France, Germany and the USA, he has published some fifty books with text and pictures. Here he talks about meetings and environments from his many trips but also about life at home.

Lars Lerin was born in 1954 in Munkfors, Värmland, where he also grew up. He has studied at Gerlesborgsskolan and Valand School of Fine Arts in Gothenburg. Nowadays he lives on Hammarö outside Karlstad. In Karlstad is also the Art Museum Sandgrund Lars Lerin, inaugurated in 2012, where his work is on display.

"Lerin is a thematicist. It is easy to follow his biographical journey through the motifs: Värmland, Lofoten, Egypt and Syria, mårten Castenfors writes in the exhibition catalogue's extensive foreword.

"The exhibition at Liljevalchs is an attempt to concentrate on what is testament to passion. What we have been looking for is the obsession, which remarkably often finds its body in coordinated moods, something that should not be personified. Lerin may paint dark, but he's not sad, he's happy when he paints.

The poet and new Tranströmer laureate Eva Runefelt has also been captured by Lars Lerin's imagery
and in the catalogue there are 22 newly written poems, poetry to be enjoyed independently or in dialogue with the paintings.

The film here has been made by photographers Mattias Lindbäck and Alexander Dahl.

The exhibition runs from 18 May to 9 September. Open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00, Friday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00.
