"Susanne Larsson's sculptural paraphrases of art-historical masterpieces, often with an Italian connection, have demonstrated her passion for history and have brought history into a new contemporary light," the jury writes in its motivation and continues, "The jury is fully convinced that Susanne can find new sculptural impulses in Villa San Michele and its surroundings and also a cooling breeze that generates energy both for her own work and for the Villa San Michele institution."
Susanne Larsson was born in 1966 and studied at Konstfack. She works figuratively in glazed ceramics and makes paraphrases of famous paintings from art history.
In addition to Mårten Castenfors, director of Liljevalchs, and Kristina Kappelin, curator of Villa San Michele, the scholarship jury included artists Henrik Samuelsson and Susanne Vollmer.
Villa San Michele in Capri reopens on 12 June after being closed for three months due to Italy's so-called lock down. Barring unforeseen circumstances, Susanne Larsson will be welcome at the villa in September, otherwise her stay will be postponed until 2021.
The big scholarship ceremony in the sculpture hall at Liljevalchs is also cancelled and Susanne is only digitally presented and celebrated on Liljevalchs website and in our social media.
