About Liljevalchs

Liljevalchs at Djurgården, the oldest and largest Kunsthalle in Stockholm. Here we show art and design in both large and small exhibitions.
We’re open every day of the week, welcome!

Liljevalchs exhibition program is addressed to a wide and new audience, as well as those interested in certain artists or art and design movements. Each new art year begins with the well-known juried Spring Salon.

Liljevalchs belongs to the city of Stockholms and was inaugurated in1916 as the first independent and public art space for contemporary art in Sweden. The beloved old Bergsten building was designed by the architect Carl Bergsten, a peaceful place with beautiful and indirect skylight. Behind our pink building, there were ideas of building artist studios as early as 1918. Since Liljevalchs+ was inaugurated in 2021 the Kunsthalle got another 2 400 square meters in three floors for exhibitions, and greater capacity to accomodate fragile and large-scale works.

Liljevalchs is led by Joanna Sandell Wright.
