The Naturaliekabinett was a private collection of natural objects that gave high status during the Enlightenment. Torsten Renqvist has taken up the theme in his sculpture Naturalieskåp, which in turn has inspired me to make pencil drawings of intaglios. While the cabinet contained curious curiosities, I have deliberately chosen to draw banal objects, a cone, a gingko leaf, a conifer and a chestnut, but perhaps with a meaning for me. They are bearers of signs for the actual purpose of the picture. To counteract the constraint of a balanced composition. To create unease.
