Gerascophobia, 2025
“No one is immune to the spectacle of their own decay.” But all of us decay.
The decay of women has always been obsessively documented in a negative light. We are consumed with anti-aging advertisements that push the agenda that our value is in our youthfulness. Ageing is considered undesirable, if not abhorred. Youth has become a permanent state rather than a transitional phase. We are willing to do anything to delay the signs of mortality and embody eternal beauty.
With every day that passes, the edible sculpture shows the striking contrast between the powder pink texture, its impeccable soft pillowy curves, swirly perky tops, and the grisly spots of mould, wilting decor and depreciation.
With time, what once was perfect, and still may appear at first glance flawless, gives off a rancid smell of spoiled cream and rotten eggs.
Gerascophobia is a sweet and darkly graphic representation of female obsession, flesh, capitalism, and the impossible battle with human decay.
