The idea for the painting came to me when I was leaving Ukraine by train in December 2022 to an art residence in Sweden. At that moment I read the news that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, according to official data, the youngest victim who was subjected to sexual violence by russian soldiers during the occupation was 4 years old, the oldest was 85 years old.

I was inspired by the naked figures of women in the background from the work of the Soviet artist M. Savitsky, who depicted similar events that occurred during the Second World War.
As of June 19, 2024 the office of Attorney General of Ukraine recorded 303 cases of sexual violence caused by the war (112 men, 191 women). These are only those who dared to report it. But the real number is much higher.

In my artistic practice I combine modern and classical imagery. Uniting figurativeness with abstraction, I use at the same time a wide range of methods and techniques, and as a result, a synthesis of painting and drawing is formed.

The material for my work is water-soluble paints, such as tempera and acrylic, with the help of which it`s possible to convey more pronounced color saturation and graphic textures.
