Observations - Eleven Swedish Jewellery Artists

6 May 2022 - 4 September 2022

Often exhibited internationally, Swedish jewellery art is seldom displayed in Sweden. This we intend to change. In the summer we will present works by eleven Swedish jewellery artists at Liljevalchs+.

Often a beloved object, jewellery may be filled with memories, it may arouse desire and greed, it may be worn as a secret sign or reinforce our roles and identities. Historically, jewellery has always held a social role and been present in our lives.

Contemporary jewellery art is filled with charged objects focusing on the phenomenon of jewellery itself. Involved in a constant exploration of the role of jewellery in relation to people, the eleven artists in the exhibition also provide reflections on how our experiences and emotions can be manifested in jewellery.

Featuring in excess of 200 works, in which details are often key in how we read them, the exhibition invites contemplation, curiosity and humour. From small objects that can be held in the hand, the scale ranges to large objects that relates to the space and cannot be worn. Some artists emphasise the material and its story and others aspects of the process of making - or to put it beautifully, the knowledge of the hand.

Thus, jewellery becomes materialised inquiries, or perhaps a type of ongoing annotation, observation or reflection on what it means to live in our time.

Curator: Sara Borgegård Älgå. Artists: Charlotte Alfort, Tobias Alm, Adam Grinovich, Hanna Hedman, Karin Johansson, Göran Kling, Agnes Larsson, Li Liang, Kajsa Lindberg, Tore Svensson and Mona Wallström.
