Every year, a few thousand hopefuls apply to the Spring Salon. This time there were 2962. The jury selected 150 artists and 316 works. More than twice as many women as men had applied, and women also dominated the field, 95 to 55. The average age of those accepted is 52, 46 for women and 54 for men. The oldest is 83-year-old Kerstin from Täby and the youngest is 19-year-old Julia from Skogsby.
Painting is, as always, the most popular technique, this year with 171 works, including mixed media based on painting. This year's jury included artists Julia Peirone and Stina Persson and Liljevalch's director Mårten Castenfors as chairman.
For the exhibition we have produced a catalogue in which each exhibitor is presented with a work and the jury's work is described in text and pictures. The catalogue was designed by the communications agency AGoodId and costs SEK 60. From the day of the opening, the artists' own texts about their works and their work will be available on our website, liljevalchs.se.
All works are for sale and the participants have set their own prices. Most expensive this year is Göran Broberg's MÄSTERVERKET, a C-print for a million even. It will also be made into an NTF work with rights included in the sale of the physical work. The cheapest is Axel Österholm's video Kommunen dödade min grandor, SEK 500 for individuals and SEK 5,000 for institutions. The sale of works will continue throughout the exhibition period.
On Friday 4 February we will be open from 11.00-17.00. For reasons of infection control, no opening or opening ceremony. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance of Bergstenhuset (not in Liljevalchs+). During the exhibition period we recommend pre-purchasing tickets via billetto.se.
The Swedish pandemic restrictions will be lifted from 9 February. However, new recommendations, as well as any changes to Liljevalchs' opening hours, will be announced on the website liljevalchs.se and in social media.
